The 36th edition of the International Jazz Plaza Festival begins in Havana, only in online format, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and with the performance of recognized national and foreign figures.

From the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Culture, pages on social networks and Streaming Cuba, viewers will enjoy six days of concerts, master classes, sessions and panels of the International Jazz Colloquium.

This theoretical space, with 15 years of history, will dedicate its presentations to the multi-award-winning pianist from Isla Chucho Valdés on his 80th birthday and will pay tribute to the conductor and composer Armando Romeu on the 110th anniversary of his birth, and to the centennial teachers Frank Emilio Flynn, Chico O’Farrill and Cándido Camero.

The event, considered one of the most significant in the world, will bring together on stage the maestro Bobby Carcassés, the Síntesis group, the pianists Roberto Fonseca and Rolando Luna, the flutist Orlando Valle ‘Maraca’ and the percussionist Ruy López Nussa, among others.

The program includes tribute concerts to the late Cuban percussionist Pello el Afrokán, the pianist Rubén González and the rumba, a musician-dance specialty, included in the list of Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Scientific Organization. culture.

The agenda, scheduled until the 24th, includes recorded performances corresponding to the HotHouse Meets Havana and the performance of American instrumentalists such as Roscoe Mitchell, Hamid Drake and Michael Zerang.
