At the close of this Tuesday, December 29, Cuba reported 86 new cases of COVID-19, 2 deaths and medical discharges, according to the information offered by Dr. Francisco Durán in a press conference broadcast on national television.
3,272 patients were admitted for clinical epidemiological surveillance, 712 suspected, 1,031 under surveillance, and 1,529 confirmed.
The number of confirmed, said Durán, is very high, which further strains the epidemiological situation in the country.
For COVID-19, 13,162 samples were studied, resulting in 86 positive. The country accumulates 1,462 thousand 68 samples carried out and of them, 0.8%, 11 thousand 687 people have been confirmed with the disease.
«They were carried out in the different laboratories of our country, which add up to 18 when the molecular biology laboratory of the city of Camagüey was incorporated. This makes it possible to bring the diagnosis closer to the places where the flights take place and where the patients are, ”added the specialist.
During the week of December 24-29, 74,734 samples were processed for an average of 10,676 samples daily. Havana accumulated the highest number of samples analyzed, with 47.12%. They are followed by Santiago de Cuba with 8.5% and Matanzas with 7.4%.
The highest percentages in these territories are associated with two circumstances: the presence of airports through which a greater number of travelers enter and the PCR is carried out upon arrival, in addition to an epidemiological complexity due to accumulated cases.
