Cuba: Díaz-Canel checks measures to prevent and control the SARS-COV-2 Coronavirus

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez led the meeting that reviewed the measures that are adopted throughout the country to prevent and control the Coronavirus.

The effectiveness of the measures that Cuba has taken for the prevention and control of COVID-19 was recognized this Tuesday at a meeting with the highest authorities of all the country’s provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, directed by the president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa.

As reported by the Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, the Island continues without confirmed cases of the new coronavirus that has already affected 104 nations. So far, said the headline, 30 travelers have been admitted for study and after carrying out seven new analyzes specifically for COVID-19, which, like the previous eight, were negative, the country remains without the disease.

In exchange by videoconference with each of the governors and the mayor of the Isle of Youth, the work deployed more intensively during the last days in aspects of the Prevention and Control Plan was evaluated, such as the certification of premises for isolation and hospitalization; the production of nose in the country; health hearings in communities and workplaces; the training of all involved; attention to the most vulnerable population; and the communication campaign to keep the people constantly informed.

Regarding this direct dialogue with the highest authorities of each territory, Vice Prime Minister Roberto Morales Ojeda warned that the first part of the training on COVID-19 is currently taking place, which should then continue more specifically with each one of the sectors.

Likewise, he drew attention to the need to certify with the established parameters the premises where potential patients will be treated. Specifically on this topic, it was learned at the meeting that a commission from the Ministry of Public Health is currently touring the country to review the conditions of the sites provided for in the Plan.

Morales Ojeda also insisted on the training of the personnel who would be working in these medical units, voluntarily and for a long period of time. Hence, he emphasized, issues such as the conditions for the rest of the staff and other details expected in a quarantine situation should be touched with the hand.
