In the world, there are 46.8 million people suffering from dementia and between 60 and 70% of those cases correspond to Alzheimer’s. In Cuba this day was celebrated with the inauguration in Havana of the Alzheimer’s Center and other Cognitive Disorders.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Roberto Morales Ojeda with the Minister of Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, among other personalities.

The work of the artist Pilar de la Caridad, inspired by her 83-year-old grandmother, will receive patients who in the next few days will have specialized care in the Alzheimer center and other cognitive disorders in Old Havana.

The scientific community lists Alzheimer’s as the new disease of the 21st century because it affects 50 million people in the world, a figure that increases every three seconds. In 11 years, more than 30% of the Cuban population will be above 60 years, forecasts that show the importance of this institution in the early diagnosis of the disease and its contribution to healthier aging.
