Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla denounced on Tuesday in the high-level segment of the 43rd Session of the Human Rights Council the resurgence of the US blockade and its impact on the daily life of the Caribbean nation.
Speaking at the forum, the head of International Relations said that the economic, commercial and financial siege imposed by Washington for six decades constitutes an act of genocide, according to the 1948 Convention to prevent and punish that crime, and a blatant, massive and systematic violation of the human rights of an entire people.Rodríguez reminded the international community that the blockade applied by successive administrations in the White House, and strengthened by the current one, is based on the declared purpose of rendering the inhabitants of the greater of the Antilles by hunger and despair.
In that sense, he presented to the Council a recent example of the aggressiveness of the United States government, the use of unconventional measures to prevent the supply of fuel in Cuba, damaging every area of society, including sensitive sectors such as health, food , education and transportation.
Extraterritorial escalation with the application of the Helms-Burton Act Likewise, he rejected the escalation in the extraterritorial component, with the application of the Helms-Burton Act, and the actions to limit travel and air connections between both countries, which affects Cuban families and foreign residents and violently further the right to travel of the Americans.
However, he said that despite US policies, Cuba is moving forward in the construction of a socialist, sovereign, prosperous, democratic and sustainable society, based on the proven resilience and creativity of its people. Rodríguez confirmed in the forum that the Caribbean nation maintains its commitment to human rights and international cooperation to help other countries that need it.
