Weigh Lifters Monopolize Praise for Cuba in Special Olympics

Yaritza Parrada led the performance of the representants of Cuba by conquering two gold medals and two silver medals in the 48 kilograms.

The Caribbean dominated the squat mode (crouching, with 80.69 kilos) and finished second in dead lift (121.04) and bench press (43.71), to be imposed on the combined total with 245.44 kg. In second and third places were the Azeri Aytaj Samadova (241.30) and the Indian Manali Manoj (225.96), respectively.

For his part, Yoandri Beltrán achieved the bronze of the 82 kilograms in the squat with a record of 130 kg and finished fourth in the dead lift with 155 kg.

Beltrán intervened here in his second special world events after Greece 2011, which he attended with his coach Leandro León and in the gold medal in the force lying down and the bronze in the squat, dead lift and total modalities .

In addition, in the athletics the Cuban representation adds a sub championship of Mandy Yaniel Mojena and a third seat of Yulieser of the Charity Ortega.

Mojena won silver in the 400 meters, with time of 55.37 seconds, surpassed by the Nicaraguan Freddy Roberto Siu, who stopped the clocks in 54.52 seconds. The Canadian Gabriel Dupuy (56.77) was the bronze.

In the other test, Ortega went through the 100 meters goal equalized with Barbara Njovo, from Zimbabwe, both with a time of 14.29 seconds. The gold medal was won by Thailand’s Sukunya Charuswat (13.59) and silver by Canada’s Kristy Alford (13.93).

With a small delegation of eight young people, Cuba has conquered in the fair two golden metals, three silver and two bronzed, in addition to two fourth places, two fifths and one seventh.

The Special Olympics was inaugurated on March 14 and gathers 7 thousand 500 athletes from 190 countries, plus three thousand coaches and 20 thousand volunteers. The calendar will end on Thursday and includes 24 sports and plans to gather half a million spectators. (Prensa Latina/English)
