The Cuban film The Extraordinary Journey of Celeste García is screened on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of the Havana Film Festival in New York, an event that has been defending Latin American filmmaking for 20 years, reports Prensa Latina.

Although special events have been held since April 5, the festival officially begins on Tuesday, with the premiere in New York of that film, which marks the debut of Arturo Infante in the direction.

Four Cuban fiction films compete this time at the Havana Film Festival: The Extraordinary Journey of Celeste García, Nest of Mantis, Innocence and The Return.

In total, 16 productions from different Latin American countries are in the race for the Havana Star Prize in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Documentary.

The cinematographic appointment in New York also dedicates several special segments to project Cuban anthology productions and of recent invoice.

Among the special events that were scheduled from April 5 to 8, a tribute was paid to the filmmaker Fernando Pérez, director of emblematic works of Cuban cinematography.
