The work of the Non-Aligned to give a mechanism of consultation and political support to those who belong to the global South, does not expire. It becomes even more pertinent as the struggles for geopolitical hegemonies between power centers intensify. And it is to this diversity of states, upon which the ancient metropolis, scenes of liberation wars and experiments of an economic system that are not intended for the most vulnerable, who, however, are responsible for talking about self-determination, built their progress. inequality and right to development.

And yes, the movement that groups most of the peoples of the world, pushes the UN to review and helps strengthen the negotiation capacity in other instances, in favor of a peaceful solution to the problems. It does, while superpowers move, in several cases, to countries of the movement, their conflicts.

The Non-Aligned were not conceived for passive roles, they had great leaders who thought so when they gave the first breath. His speech points to coexistence and respect, and in those waters he sails to defend independent positions, reflecting, as only they can, their interests and conditions.

While remaining a symbol of the anti-imperialist resistance, taking into account its relationship with the national liberation movements in the 50s and 60s, the NAM recognizes the importance of articulating with other integration mechanisms and concentrating its efforts on building a multipolar world.

For Cuba, this Movement is not simply another forum. The prestige of the Island at the international level is also a result of the positions of Cuba, the founding state of the Non-Aligned in the Americas. The denunciation of the actions that Washington commits, and the legitimate defense of the values ​​and principles of the Island, have found fertile ground in that Movement.

Its validity and need are more than proven. The existence of a unilateral and aggressive policy, which conditions and limits Cuba’s relations with the rest of the world, calls for concerted efforts with those countries and movements that contradict the current hegemonic order.

In times of escalation in the tensions and resurgence of the economic war against Cuba, the Non-Aligned are the precise forum to demand justice, warn about American plans and promote an international initiative for the vindication of the rights of all the assaulted nations. “It takes a load to finish rascals,” said the poet. The Non-Aligned are connected to that work.
