The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced the media campaign against his country and the attempts of the United States to justify a military intervention, in an interview published on Tuesday by the British channel BBC.

In declarations granted to the company of radio and television of the United Kingdom, the agent chief executive condemned the aggressions orchestrated from Washington against his nation, between which it mentioned the economic blockade, the diffusion of false news, the threat of military actions and the preparation of a coup d’etat with the support of the extreme right.

“Why is Venezuela so interesting for the West and the United States? If we produce potatoes, parsley or apples, we might not exist in the geopolitical map, but we are the first oil reserve in the world, the fourth gas reserve and we are certifying ourselves as one of the largest gold reserves, “he said.

“Today we preside over the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and for this reason they consider it important to launch attacks of all kinds on us, to corner us and then provoke an outcome like that of Iraq and Libya. But Venezuela is neither Iraq nor Libya, “he added.

He also criticized the role of major media such as the American CNN and the BBC itself in spreading lies about their country, as part of a script established to justify any type of aggression.

However, he asserted that the South American nation will face all the obstacles that come up and will overcome with truth the campaigns against it.

The West manipulates the real situation to favor any action against Venezuela. We have problems like other States. We have been struggling for years to reduce poverty, raise the quality of employment and ensure that education reaches more than 90 percent of our children. The United States intends to mount a humanitarian crisis to justify a military intervention, “he said.

“We have the most powerful empire in the world freezing all our accounts and our assets abroad, chasing every ship that comes with products. Of course that has brought an important mismatch, but we will overcome it, “he added.

Maduro said he has a strong popular support, reflected in the numerous electoral victories of recent years, and demanded the respect of the international community to the sovereignty of Venezuela.

We are a noble country and we have the right to peace. The US president, Donald Trump, tries to impose a government that has not chosen anyone, who proclaimed himself unconstitutional. Some European countries are getting carried away by this extremist policy, which violates the UN Charter, he said.

The Venezuelan president urged the people of the world to open their eyes, denounce these aggressions and understand that only in peace can their nation solve their problems.

“If you want to support us, say no to the intervention and ask the United States to take its hands of Venezuela,” he said.
