March of the program of house building in Cuba has been double checked

The President of the Council of States and Ministries, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, double checked the housing program, which was catalogued as one of the priorities for the high impact it has in the population.

At the meeting, was offered detailed information about the local production of construction materials, considered paramount support, since it makes closer the constructive solution to the territories, allows the collective participation and strengthens the role of the municipalities to solve their own housing troubles.

The local production has gradually grown

According to reports, during the last five years the local production has increased yearly between an 8 and 11 % and several production capacities have been installed –the so called mini industries- in the 168 municipalities.

Nowadays, we work in the extension of this program with the activation of new productive bases in little more than 230 popular Councils.

The director of the production of local materials of the Ministry of Construction, Tomas Vázquez Enrique, quoted that 80% of what is produced through this way is given to the population, whereas 20% is sent to social woks of the municipalities.

Mini industry is an important source of production

At the end of 2017, the mini industries had built around 316000 cubic meters of aggregates, 13 million bricks, 40 million concrete blocks, 1 200 squared meters of mosaics and ceramic tiles, and 37 000 concrete tanks, among others.

During this year, the local production levels remain stable, though emphasizing in the need to watch the quality increase of these products which are resistance proof, but sometimes have aesthetic troubles.

It was insisted about this subject to be more demanding with the program and in places where quality cannot be certified, adequate measures should be taken, since it implies disrespect to the population.

At the meeting, the construction of equipment for the mini industries was updated, among them, mills, moulds, block maker, extruder, press and concrete mixers, carried on in several entities of the country. This effort should multiply for the local production to increase even more. It was made a call to take advantage in this pledge apart from the recycling of equipment and materials.

Housing troubles are still very complicated

Concerning this, the Cuban President considered that the incentive to the local production is one of the fundamental paths to solve little by little the accumulated housing troubles, that’s why is vital to check the matter each time the territories are visited.

He expressed there are still potentials to exploit in the housing programs and it is determinant to support upon the investigations which construction wise are carried on in institutions and universities of the country.

We should work using varied alternatives with different typologies of houses, since what it works in one territory not necessarily works in another. The experimental polygons can be feasible for the building of houses low scaled he expressed, where new materials and new aesthetic shapes should be introduced.

In recent days, Díaz-Canel had held other similar meetings to check the march of varied programs also fundamental, like transportation, hydraulic, television digitalization, the State plans to face the climate changing and the preservation of the historical memory, as part of a work system in which these kind of matters should be checked periodically.
