The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, reiterated this Thursday his rejection of the interventionist attitude of the United States when trying to impose changes in Venezuela. Through the social network twitter, the president wrote “extreme impudence against the dignity of Venezuela” where he also shared a comment published in the Granma newspaper regarding the new strategy of the White House towards the South American nation.
Imperial figures still think that their country has the right to design and impose changes in governments and social systems. They are wrong. #ManosFueraDeVenezuela, wrote the head of state.
The day before yesterday, Díaz-Canel also denounced on social networks Washington’s proposal to end sanctions against Caracas if Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaidó step aside and allow a transitional government. According to the Cuban dignitary, the immoral imperial government does not cease in its interventionist, colonizing and aggressive claims.
The idea of the Administration of President Donald Trump is to form a transition government appointed by parliamentarians from the ruling party and the opposition, while insisting on ignoring Maduro’s legitimacy as a Venezuelan president, elected in 2018. Pompeo and the United States’ special representative for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, presented this strategy last Tuesday, which estimates the holding of elections within the next six or 12 months, elections in which the president of the transitional government could not run.
The head of US diplomacy suggested that if those steps were followed, in addition to the international validation of the alleged vote, sanctions against Venezuela would be suspended. In response, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza rejected Washington’s proposal and emphasized that decisions in Venezuela are made in Caracas, at the Miraflores Palace, under the Venezuelan Constitution.
