Meteorites, tornadoes, cyclones, earthquakes, and droughts, all in a small island of the map, seem incredible. Phenomena of nature that if it were not for its capricious presence in this tropical geography, we would think that each of them fits in a film. Only Cubans with that tremendous strength of solidarity and humanism, we have been able to move forward. But I stop today in a harmful phenomenon, as devastating as these natural disasters, because it speaks of the interest of some to exaggerate our difficulties, create adverse opinion states, confusion, discomfort, apathy.

I speak of the use and abuse of malicious opinions that seek to minimize the actions of the Cuban government and our press in the care of families affected by the passage of the tornado in Havana. People who have found in very isolated events, in actions, perhaps, without proper management, in some organizational gaps; a reason for disunity. The aid that has been genuinely born of this people is distorted then, from all corners, headed by the youth, the immense work of the linemen is annulled and the unfavorable comments to the whole institutional effort are exalted. Social networks have promoted good actions that fortunately are many, but they have also served, with their marked personalism, to the contrary: to try to fill us with pessimism, discouragement and uncertainties. Not to mention the morbidity that awakens tragedies such as those that live today affected families.

What confirms that the Cuban reality continues to be news in other parts of the world in the worst way, that the campaign against Cuba is fiercely activated at the slightest event and there are those who, as they have said on the networks, think that we deserve worse things than a tornado for defending our ideas. But again, those, fortunately, are only a few. The Cuban emigration has given very favorable examples of solidarity. Let’s take those good examples then. Beware of messages of low value, low passions. That there are still unresolved problems that need urgent answers, I subscribe. Fortunately Cubans are very close when nature hits us. With a coffee, with a hug we get up. In Santiago de Cuba, in Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas, Holguín, Camagüey, in Pinar del Río, we have demonstrated this. In Havana it will not be different. Let’s take this moment to unite, to share what little we have.
