The UN Population Fund affirmed that Cuba is one of the countries with the lowest infant and maternal mortality rate in the world due to the existence of its public health system.

One of the main reasons for achieving similar health indicators is the operation of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, Rafael Cuestas, International Program Coordinator with residence in Havana, told the Cuban News Agency.

He also stressed that since 2015 Cuba has met the indicators that certified it as the first nation in the world to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of HIV and Congenital Syphilis.
