Cuba participates in the Assembly of the Peoples of the Caribbean

The Cuban delegation that participates in the VIII Assembly of the Peoples of the Caribbean (APC) in Trinidad and Tobago intervenes in the debate of the event with a call to strengthen unity in the region.

On its 25th anniversary, the Assembly convened for this edition more than 60 delegates from 13 nations, whose central theme is the fight against the imperialist agenda and the need to strengthen the resistance and integration of the region.

During the opening of the APC, the Central of Workers of Cuba invited the Caribbean nations to participate in the Anti-Imperialist Solidarity Meeting, for Democracy and Against Neoliberalism to be held in Havana, between November 1st and 3rd.

Puerto Rico also raised its voice at the inauguration and in the spirit of struggle of Lolita Lebrón ratified through one of her youth the resistance of the people against the colonialism of the United States. As an example of unity, the Puerto Rican representative referred to the 12 days of protests against former Governor Ricardo Rosselló.

In welcoming the delegates, Claudette Etnel de Suriname pointed out the resurgence of imperialism in the hemisphere with the rise of the political forces of the right wing and the threat of neo-fascism.

From the Executive Secretariat of the São Paulo Forum and in the words of Mónica Valente, greetings to all the delegates to the Assembly arrived.

The APC agenda also includes debates on social movements, climate change, food sovereignty, colonialism; as well as the consequences of racism, nationalism and xenophobia.

Prior to the meeting that will run until next Monday, the Cuban delegation, composed of members of various social and political organizations, held an exchange with executives of the trade union movement and solidarity with the island in Trinidad and Tobago.
