Covid-19 in Cuba: 1039 new positive cases, 5 deaths

Dr. Francisco Durán García, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health of #Cuba reported on the situation of # COVID19 in the country, in his usual and long-awaited press conference.

For COVID-19, 18,156 samples were studied, resulting in 1,039 positive samples. The country accumulates two million 263 thousand 652 samples carried out and 44 thousand 523 positive (1.97%).

5 people died in the last day due to the disease:

90-year-old citizen of the municipality of 10 de Octubre in Havana. Positive case contact.

92-year-old citizen from the municipality of Centro Habana, in the country’s capital. Case contact positive case.

58-year-old citizen of Santiago de Cuba, from the main municipality. Positive case contact.

Of the 1,39 diagnosed cases, 437 were female and 602 male. 59.5% (618) of the 1,39 positive cases were asymptomatic, accumulating a total of 24,264, representing 55.4% of those confirmed until the date.

The 1,39 diagnosed cases belong to the age groups: under 20 years: 125, from 20 to 39 years: 378, from 40 to 59 years: 378 and over 60: 158.

Distribution by province and municipalities of confirmed cases:

Havana (579), Santiago de Cuba (180), Camaguey (45), Artemisa (35), Holguín (31), Mayabeque (26), Ciego de Ávila (25), Pinar del Río (24), Villa Clara ( 11), Guantánamo (22), Sancti Spíritus (17), Cienfuegos (11), Granma (11), Matanzas (5), Las Tunas (4)The provinces with the highest incidence rate: Havana, Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Mayabeque, Isla de la Juventud and Pinar del Río. Of the 5046 confirmed patients, 4980 have a stable clinical course, 296 have died, for a fatality of 0.67%.

2 have evacuated, 54 have returned to their countries.935 discharges were granted, for a cumulative number of recovered of 39 125.There are 66 patients in intensive care: 26 in critical condition and 40 in serious condition.

Until February 20, 190 countries and 29 territories with COVID-19 cases are reported, the confirmed cases amount to 111 million 430 thousand 830 (+ 427 thousand 930) with 22 million 661 thousand 64 active cases and 2 million 467 thousand 342 deaths (+ 11,125) for a lethality of 2.21. In the Americas region, 50 million 79 thousand 598 confirmed cases are reported (+ 190 thousand 45), 44.94% of the total cases reported in the world, with 11 million 9 thousand 960 active cases and 1 million 185 thousand 380 deceased (+ 5 thousand 733) for a fatality of 2.36.
