Repairers of the Breach and Institute for Policy Studies Release New Fact Sheet Detailing Impact of President Trump’s Budget [1]
[]
Date: 2025-07
This week, Repairers of the Breach, in partnership with the Institute for Policy Studies and the Economic Policy Institute, published The High Moral Stakes of Budget Reconciliation fact sheet, which examines the dangerous and deadly cuts in the House-passed version of President Trump’s domestic policy bill. This bill could lead to the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich since chattel slavery and threatens to cut vital services that would cause a surge of economic insecurity and preventable deaths amongst the nation’s poor. Amongst other impacts, the House-passed bill would
strip 16 million people of health insurance;
use work requirements to take Medicaid away from as many as 14.4 million people;
take up to $1,600 per year on average from the poorest 10% of households;
and deny an estimated 17 million children of benefits through the Child Tax Credit, while inflating the already bloated military budget to a record-high of $1.011 trillion.
“If this budget passes, it will unleash years of needless suffering on our nation’s most vulnerable—preying on those with the least and undermining the dignity of hardworking, low-wage Americans. We must not—and will not—stop praying and advocating against this deadly and unjust bill,” said Bishop William J. Barber, II, President & Sr. Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach.
As Congress continues to debate the President’s “Big Ugly Destructive Deadly” Bill, Repairers of the Breach is organizing Moral Mondays in D.C. gatherings co-led by impacted people and other communities in danger from pending reconciliation proposals who are uniting to condemn lawmakers’ plans to harm poor and vulnerable communities.
The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival has created this tool for moral leaders and activists to call their Congressional representatives and demand that they enact a moral budget.
This fact sheet is a part of The High Moral Stakes of the Policy Battles Raging in Washington report, which examines the dangerous budget cuts being proposed by the new administration and Congress, and how these cuts will impact the nation as a whole as well as vulnerable communities.
