Department of Energy Loan Office cancels funding to Grain Belt Express [1]

The ongoing saga of attempts to fund the Grain Belt Express (GBX) transmission project across northern Missouri looks to have come to an end.

In a post on X Wednesday morning, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said that he received confirmation from the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) that the guarantee to give $4.9 billion to the project at taxpayers' expense

AG Bailey into GBX at the beginning of July over alleged misleading claims that the project would benefit the state with new jobs, among other things.

According to Bailey, the project would actually serve "out-of-state interests instead of Missourians."

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley (R) in canceling the loan, including adding a provision to a recent recession package that would claw back about $9 billion in federal funding.
