ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier took aim at U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar on Tuesday after a clip of her criticizing federal policies went viral online.
The clip in question was taken from an interview on Friday where Omar aired her grievances regarding President Donald Trump’s recent response to violent protests in Los Angeles.

In the clip, Omar can be heard saying the following:
“I grew up in a dictatorship, and I don’t even remember witnessing anything like that. To have a democracy, a beacon of hope for the world, to now be turned into one of the worst countries, where the military are in our streets without any regard for people’s constitutional rights while our president is spending millions of dollars propping himself up like a failed dictator with a military parade, it is really shocking, and it should be a wake-up call for all Americans to say, ‘This is not the country we were born in, this is not the country we believe in, this is not the country our founding fathers imagined, and this is not the country supported by our constitutional ideals and values. And we should all collectively be out in the streets, rejecting what is taking place this week.” U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), "Democracy Now!" Interview on June 13, 2025
The clip was posted to X.com on Tuesday by an account called “End Wokeness,” and it was later retweeted by Uthmeier with a caption reading, “Denaturalize and Deport.”

Jeremy Redfern — the communications officer for Uthmeier’s office — provided News 6 with the following statement in regards to the post.
“Nothing more to add,” Redfern messaged. “Kinda to the point lol.”
Earlier this month, the DHS reported that over 100 undocumented immigrants — some of whom have violent criminal histories — had been arrested in ICE operations around Los Angeles, though groups of rioters eventually began attacking agents, slashing tires and vandalizing nearby property.
“Our ICE enforcement officers are facing a 413% increase in assaults against them,”a release from the DHS reads. “Disturbingly, in recent days, ICE officers’ family members have been doxed and targeted, as well.”
The conflict escalated after immigration enforcement responded to a Home Depot just south of Los Angeles, with violent protestors throwing debris like cinder blocks at Border Patrol vehicles as federal agents unleashed tear gas and flash-bang explosives.

Confrontations like these spurred President Donald Trump to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops to the city to maintain order, though California Gov. Gavin Newsom claimed that the move would “only escalate tensions.”
On the other side of the country, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lambasted the riots in Los Angeles and claimed that California couldn’t simply “ignore the law.”
“You come from a foreign country illegally into our country, you burn the American flag in protest of them trying to send you back to the country whose flag you’re waving?” DeSantis stated. “This is such a farce.”

News 6 has reached out to Omar’s office for a response to Uthmeier’s comment and is awaiting a reply.
