Former Vice President Kamala Harris may have some competition if she wants to make a bid for the 2028 presidential election.
A new poll from Echelon Insights found that Harris’s lead in a hypothetical 2028 Democratic presidential primary race has narrowed since the poll was last taken in March. The poll found that 28% of Democrats would vote for Harris in a hypothetical primary contest, which is down from the 33% who said they would vote for her in March.
The poll did find that support for New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) jumped up in April after he delivered a speech on the Senate floor for more than 25 hours to protest President Donald Trump. Booker followed Harris’s lead with 11% of support among Democrats in the new poll, which is up by 9 percentage points since the March poll.
In a head-to-head matchup, the poll showed Harris leading Booker, with 54% supporting Harris and 34% backing Booker

The poll was conducted among 1,014 likely voters between April 10-14 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Harris has reportedly been mulling a potential bid for president in 2028 after her devastating loss to Trump last November. When asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday about whether he would support Harris running again, Booker said he did not care about the 2028 race.
“Honestly, I don’t care about 2028… Democrats in general, we should not be concerned about the party’s future, we should be concerned about people’s present," he told NBC’s Kristen Welker.
He also said he was focused on his own reelection bid when asked if he would consider a run for president.
“I’m focused on today and my re-election in ‘26. I’ve already announced to the people of New Jersey. I’m hoping they’ll allow me to be their senator for another six years. And let’s be clear, I’m proud of the work we’ve done over the last six years. There’s been no senator that has had a better record of bringing resources back to the state of New Jersey. So, I’m focused on the now, working to defend folks, and God willing, be re-elected in 2026,” Booker said.
