Breaking: Trump Administration Attempts to Gut Planned Parenthood By Withholding Title X Funding [1]

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, nine Planned Parenthood affiliates received notice from the Trump administration about plans to withhold Title X funding effective tomorrow, April 1. This decision will hurt patients across the country who rely on Planned Parenthood health centers to get sexual and reproductive health care.

Title X is the nation’s only federal program dedicated to providing affordable birth control, cancer screenings, and other sexual and reproductive health care to people with low incomes. Since it was enacted in 1970 as a bipartisan bill, the program has helped millions of people, who couldn’t otherwise afford these services, get the care they need and deserve.

In response, Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, released the following statement:

“President Trump and Elon Musk are pushing their dangerous political agenda, stripping health care access from people nationwide, and not giving a second thought to the devastation they will cause. We know what happens when health care providers cannot use Title X funding: People across the country suffer, cancers go undetected, access to birth control is severely reduced, and the nation’s STI crisis worsens. Planned Parenthood Action Fund will fight to get this funding restored and to keep politicians out of health care. People need affordable health care options. This cannot stand.”

Here are the facts:

Planned Parenthood health centers are proud to serve patients, regardless of their immigration status, political affiliation, race, or gender.

More than three-quarters of Planned Parenthood affiliates participate in the Title X program. Overall in 2023, Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers provided over 400,000 cancer screening and prevention services, over 2 million birth control services, and over 5 million STI services.

More than 300 Planned Parenthood health centers are in the Title X network.

In 2023, there were more than 1.5 million visits to Title X-funded Planned Parenthood health centers.

One in four people — including one in three women — have been to a Planned Parenthood health center in their lifetime.

Nearly 8 in 10 (77%) voters oppose the Trump administration taking away funds used for birth control for people with low incomes from Planned Parenthood health centers. This includes 63% of Trump voters.
