GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) -March 8 is International Women’s Day. In support of the day, residents came together for a Women’s March in downtown Grand Junction
The event started at 11:30 am with speakers addressing several issues. Then the group marched to the library around noon.
Mallory Martin, one of the organizers of the event, said at least 100 people RSVPed online. Martin said the goal of the march was to highlight the importance of women’s issues. She specifically mentioned women’s rights and healthcare
The event included many people of different ages, genders, and ethnicities. “In times when things are so divisive, it can feel very lonely and isolating, and so the community that builds around movements like this has been so welcoming and so beautiful that it’s heartwarming to see,” said Martin.
Martin also believes it’s important for people to get out and have their voices heard with issues like this. “Our representatives need to hear about the things that are important to us. If we’re staying at home or not posting about these things, we’re not talking about these things because they might be controversial or not well received, then our representation doesn’t know that these are the things that are important to us,” said Martin.
