Nearly 1,500 people gathered in the Boston Common in front of the Massachusetts State House on Saturday, for the 2025 Boston Women's March.Since March 8 is commemorated as International Women's Day in many countries around the world, organizers of the march said they were "taking to the streets to fight back against the fascist takeover," as well as "defending their rights, bodies and future.""We are the ones who are going to stand up," participant Ashley Barys said. "There is a magic when women come together. We can really make change happen."During the march, participants held up signs supporting women's rights, gender equality and feminism, as well as signs condemning President Donald Trump, his administration and Elon Musk."It was really important for me to be here today, to stand up for human rights, for women's rights, to protect bodily autonomy, to just make myself and my presence known," participant Celeste Royce said. The march began at 12 p.m. on the Boston Common near the state house and continued through the city, passing "all major points on Boston," according to organizers, before ending at 3 p.m. on Saturday."I wanted to be here to show my support," participant Travis Hatmaker said. "I think that the Republican Party, Trump and Musk in particular, are taking advantage of our democracy."The Boston Department said there were no arrests at Saturday's march and very few counter-protestors.A similar march was held in 2017, following the inauguration of Trump and the beginning of his first term as U.S. president. That year, as many as 175,000 people attended the march, according to the office of Boston's former mayor Marty Walsh, who joined Sens.
