The Brief A "No Kings on President's Day" demonstration took place on Feb. 17 to protest against the Trump administration's immigration policies. The protest happened at the Arizona State Capitol. Similar protests were also organized across the country.
A big protest took place near Downtown Phoenix on President's Day against President Donald Trump.
"We are out here to make our voices heard, and to speak for people who can’t," said one protester.
In Phoenix and other parts of the country, protesters used the holiday as a platform to speak out against Trump and Elon Musk.
What we know:
In Phoenix, the protest took place at the Arizona State Capitol, and it's organized by the 50501 Movement (50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement).
The protest is a response to what demonstrators describe as the 'anti-democratic' actions of President Trump and his administration. Protesters criticized President Trump's stance on immigration, while also decrying Musk, the leader of a group that is named "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE)
While Republicans said DOGE is directed towards slashing wasteful government spending, demonstrators argue it's hurting Americans who rely on those programs.
What they're saying:
"I have two kids in their 20s, and I want them to have the same freedom that I had growing up in this country," said one protester.
"It’s about humanity. Where did we lose our humanity?" said another protester.
The other side:
The Arizona Republican Majority Caucus is defending the President.
In a statement, the group said:
"Arizonans have made it clear—they are fed up with the reckless open-border policies pushed by Democrats and their protest-driven allies. Speaker Montenegro and House Republicans stand unequivocally with President Trump in his commitment to securing the border and enforcing America’s immigration law."

Anti-Trump protests have popped up across the Valley for the last couple of weeks.
Earlier this month, demonstrators gathered in Phoenix to protest against the president's executive orders.
Prior to that, Glendale demonstrators hit the streets near the Westgate area to voice their message. The night before, protesters marched through central Phoenix to the state Capitol. During the demonstration, a woman who allegedly threw a bottle at a police drone was arrested.
During another Glendale incident, a police vehicle was briefly stolen during a protest.
