Landmark Commitment to Tax Billionaires at G20 Meeting Global leaders at this year’s G20 Summit have committed to cooperating more closely to taxing ultra-high-net-worth individuals, marking a landmark commitment from the group. In the statement below, Jenny Ricks, leader of one of the world’s foremost campaigns to tax the ultra-wealthy, shares further insight on what this decision means amid growing global inequality and with a second Trump Presidency looming. Jenny is available to comment further on this and please let me know if you would like me to connect you to her. Please copy

Here is the G20 Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Declaration covering the key commitments made by leaders of the G20 during the summit, including taxing the ultra-wealthy in section 20. Finally, I’m linking to a fact sheet with recent statistics and sources on the state of global economic inequality and suggested reforms, that I thought could be helpful for your future reporting on the topic, with recent statistics and sources on the state of global economic inequality and suggested reforms. Kind Regards, Ian Gachichio On behalf of the Fight Inequality Alliance +254 721300873 Reacting to the G20’s commitment to taxing the super-rich, Jenny Ricks, General Secretary, Fight Inequality Alliance (FIA), said: “The G20 summit has reaffirmed a global commitment to taxing the super-rich, which is progress we’ve been fighting for – but we still have a long way to go to make this a reality. “We live in the era of the billionaire, but we need to move to the era of the 99%. This shift won’t come easily. The US elections have shown how the super-rich can use their wealth and power to influence policies and shape the outcomes of elections. Leaders like Trump in the US and Javier Milei in Argentina are actively working to derail international cooperation, while politicians around the world fail to oppose the vested interests that continue to benefit from such unequal societies. “We will fight harder than ever before to transform the rhetoric on taxing the rich into a global reality. We need more equal societies in which the richest no longer hold all the power and wealth, with devastating consequences. We need to redistribute the wealth of the super-rich to fund vital public services and the response to climate change. Such a transformation is essential to creating the alternative we seek to today’s broken system.
