28 million people are at risk of family separation in 2025 [1]
[]
Date: 2024-11
Based on U.S. governmental data, FWD.us projects that nearly 28.2 million U.S. residents, including 19.5 million Latinos, as of the start of 2025, will live in a mixed-status or undocumented household. This amounts to about 1 in 12 total U.S. residents, and nearly 1 in 3 Latinos, at risk of deportation or family separation.1
Nearly four decades after Congress last passed meaningful and positive immigration reform, and as threats of mass deportation accumulate, more mixed-status and undocumented families than ever face higher uncertainty about whether they could be separated from their loved ones or be deported.
Some 11.3 million U.S. citizens, and an additional 2.4 million lawful permanent residents (LPR) and nonimmigrant (temporary) visa holders, live in “mixed-status” households alongside an estimated 10.1 million undocumented individuals.
