STATEMENT: To Be “Rule of Law” Candidate, Harris Needs to Commit to Ending Weapons to Israel [1]

Dear Norman,
Tonight Vice President Kamala Harris reiterated that she wants to be a president who supports the rule of law. Supporting the rule of law means committing to end weapons to Israel.
Continuing to send weapons to Israel violates the Foreign Assistance Act, the Arms Export Control Act, the “Leahy Laws,” and the Biden administration’s own Conventional Arms Transfer (CAT) policies and National Security Memorandum/NSM-20.
According to President Biden himself, the Israeli prime minister is rejecting a ceasefire deal to preserve his own political career. Harris can't claim to want a ceasefire while providing Israel with billions of dollars of weapons to inflict genocidal violence against Palestinians, especially when doing so violates multiple US laws and policies that are supposed to prevent the US from being complicit in atrocities.
The American people are sick of seeing their tax dollars fund Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians. Poll after poll show the majority of Americans, including voters in swing states, support ending weapons to Israel. The vast majority of Democrats want their nominee to commit to ending these weapons transfers.
In just the last week, the Israeli military has targeted and killed an American citizen, Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, and dropped US-made 2,000-pound bombs on a refugee camp in Gaza, killing dozens of Palestinians.
Vice President Harris is in a neck-and-neck election. To win, and to live up to the values her campaign claims to stand for, she needs to commit to enforcing US laws and ending weapons to Israel as president.
