WEST BATH UNIFIED CRIMINAL COURT. TURNING TO COMMITMENT 2024, VERMONT SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS GAVE HIS OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS AT A RALLY IN PORTLAND TODAY. THE ANNOUNCEMENT COMES AFTER DAYS OF SANDERS NOT JOINING FELLOW SENATORS AND DEMOCRATS, WHO HAD ALREADY GIVEN THEIR FORMAL SUPPORT OF THE VICE PRESIDENT. CAMERON LOBEL WAS IN PORTLAND TODAY AND TELLS US HOW SANDERS IS PREPARING MAINE VOTERS FOR NOVEMBER. THE PORTLAND STATE THEATER WAS PACKED WITH PEOPLE FOR BERNIE SANDERS TODAY, AS THE VERMONT SENATOR MAKES HIS WAY THROUGH MAINE AHEAD OF THE 2024 ELECTION. AFTER MUCH ANTICIPATION, THE SENATOR FINALLY GAVE HIS OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT FOR VP KAMALA HARRIS IN THIS YEAR’S PRESIDENTIAL RACE. BUT OUR JOB IS NOT JUST TO DEFEAT DONALD TRUMP. IT IS TO ELECT KAMALA HARRIS AS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT. THIS COMES AFTER DEMOCRATIC HEAVY HITTERS LIKE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN, NANCY PELOSI AND FELLOW SENATORS ALL GAVE THEIR FORMAL ENDORSEMENTS FOR THE VICE PRESIDENT FOLLOWING THE END OF BIDEN’S REELECTION CAMPAIGN. THE VERMONT SENATOR UP TO THAT POINT SHOWING SUPPORT BUT STOPPING SHORT OF ANYTHING OFFICIAL. TODAY, SANDERS URGING HIS SUPPORTERS TO PUT ALL THEIR EFFORT INTO SECURING HARRIS’S PRESIDENCY. THE PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT, IN MY JUDGMENT, HAS GOT TO DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO GET OUT ON THE STREETS, TO KNOCK ON DOORS, GET ON PHONES, GET ON SOCIAL MEDIA, AND DO EVERYTHING THAT WE CAN TO ELECT THE VICE PRESIDENT. WHILE SOME ATTENDEES SAY SANDERS ENDORSEMENT IS HELPING THEM WITH THEIR ELECTION DECISION, WELL, I AGREED WITH HIM BEFORE HE EVEN SPOKE, SO THERE’S NO DOUBT IN MY MIND. CERTAINLY NOT GOING BACK TO TRUMP. OTHERS SAY THAT RESERVATIONS FROM WHEN BIDEN WAS RUNNING STILL LINGER WITH HARRIS. I WANT TO SAY THAT I’M 100% BEHIND HARRIS. I’M NOT 100% BEHIND HER, BUT IF I HAVE TO SAY RIGHT NOW, I’M LEANING IN THAT DIRECTION. FOLLOWING HIS VISIT TO PORTLAND, THE SENATOR MADE HIS WAY UP TO BANGOR THIS EVENING FOR A TOWN HA

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders announced his formal endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris in Portland on Saturday.A full house greeted Sanders at the State Theatre in Portland for a rally ahead of the 2024 election.After days of not joining fellow Senators and Democratic heavy hitters who had already given their official support, Sanders formally announced his endorsement of Harris on stage."Our job is not just to defeat Donald Trump,” said Sanders. “It is to elect Kamala Harris as our next president."He confirmed the endorsement later in a post on “X.”“We must defeat Trump, elect VP @KamalaHarris, and create a government that works for all, not just the 1%,” he said.The Senator, up until today, had publicly shown support to Harris, but would stop short of any formal endorsement.Sanders is now urging his supporters to put their effort into securing Harris' presidency and keeping former President Donald Trump away from the White House."The progressive movement, in my judgment, has got to do everything we can to get out on the streets, to knock on doors, get on phones, get on social media, and do everything that we can to elect the Vice President,” said Sanders.The effects of this endorsement were mixed among the attendees.Some, like Joan Hammer Grant of Portland, say the endorsement only solidified her choice of candidate."Well, I agreed with him before he even spoke, so there's no doubt in my mind,” said Grant. “I’m certainly not going back to Trump."Others, like Sally Bowden-Schaiple, say that reservations from when Biden was running, are still lingering with Harris."I want to say that I’m 100% behind Harris,” said Bowden-Schaiple. “I'm not 100% behind her. But if I have to say right now, I’m leaning in that direction."Following his visit to Portland, Sanders visited Bangor for a town hall.
