Spending Proposal to Cut EPA Budget by 20% Advances in Congress [1]

House appropriators Friday advanced legislation that would cut the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget while boosting funds for wildland firefighting and Indian Country.

The Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee approved by voice vote a $38.5 billion fiscal 2025 spending measure for the agencies under its jurisdiction, $72 million below the enacted level for fiscal 2024.

The full Appropriations panel plans to consider the bill July 9.

The committee recommended $7.4 billion for the EPA in fiscal 2025, a 20% budget decrease from the current enacted level. Interior would receive $14.7 billion, $42.1 million below fiscal 2024 and including cuts ...
