Jim Jordan grills Fauci on Chinese research grant: 'The country would find that amazing' [1]

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Monday pushed Dr. Anthony Fauci to clarify his stance on a theory that COVID-19 escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China.
His remarks came in a heated hearing of the House Oversight Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, during which several GOP members Fauci’s actions while guiding America’s pandemic response.
Fauci had repeatedly allegations he attempted to suppress theories the COVID-19 pandemic originated from a lab leak in Wuhan, China while taking questions from Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., earlier in the hearing.
Rep. Jordan grilled Fauci further during questioning, asking about the theory's connection to an NIAID grant awarded to a Chinese lab.
Does that have anything to do with that downplaying of the lab-leak theory?” the representative asked.
“No, nothing,” Fauci said.
“Do you agree that there was a push to downplay the lab-leak theory?” Rep. Jordan replied.
Not on my part,” Fauci said.
“Really?” Rep. Jordan asked. “I think most of the country would find that amazing.”
“Look at the facts,” Fauci said. “I’ve kept an open mind throughout the entire process.”
Fauci during the hearing wrongdoing by a member of his inner circle, condemning the actions of his former top advisor, David Morens. The subcommittee had acquired documents last week showing he may have been working to shield certain communications from being accessible through public records requests.
"That was wrong and inappropriate and violated policy,” Fauci said during that line of questioning from Rep. James Comer, R-Ky.
