Israel Seizes Broadcasting Equipment In Sderot Amid Al Jazzera Ban [1]

Israeli Minister of Communications Dr. Shlomo Karai has ordered return of camera equipment to the Associated Press (AP) after authorities under his direction seized it earlier on Tuesday.

The equipment owned by the AP, and used by Al Jazeera and TV network broadcasts across the globe, was seized in the city of Sderot under orders of Israeli Minister of Communications Dr. Shlomo Karhi.

The move aligned with the directive issued by Karhi to cease Al Jazeera broadcasts within Israel.

The enforcement team arrived at the AP complex in Sderot, confiscating photographic equipment that had been providing services to the Al Jazeera channel. The seized items include a camera, tripod, Live U modem, and two microphones.

The camera in question was broadcasting live from the northern Gaza Strip, including activities of the IDF forces, a situation that Israel says posed a significant risk to the safety of Israeli soldiers.

Israel had previously issued a warning to the AP agency last week, stating that under the law and the recent government decision, they were prohibited from providing broadcast services to Al Jazeera.

Despite this warning, the AP agency continued its broadcasts, prompting today's enforcement action.

Israeli Opposition leadr Yair Lapid lambasted the government's decision, saying that the move would only antagonize the world even more against the Jewish state.

“The confiscation of the equipment of AP, the largest news agency in the world, by Shlomo Karhi’s men, is an act of madness. This is not Al Jazeera, this is an American media outlet that has won 53 Pulitzer Prizes,” Lapid said.
