Sometimes the politics of US health care seems disconnected from the reality of the business. Take Medicare. For almost a decade, stretching back to Bernie Sanders’ run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, Medicare-for-all has been the north star for progressive politicians who want to replace private health insurance with a public single-payer system.
