Poll: A third of Americans approve of Biden's Israel-Hamas response [1]

Divisions on the war are also generational, with younger people expressing deep skepticism of Biden’s response. Respondents under 30 years old were most critical of Biden of all groups: Just 19 percent approved of the White House’s response, while 46 percent disapproved. Older generations were generally less negative in the poll.
That tracks with an increasingly sympathetic sentiment toward Palestinians among young people. About 1,200 Israelis were killed in the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas, while some 17,000 Palestinians have been killed and nearly two million internally displaced due to Israel’s retaliatory attacks.
Aboard Air Force One on Friday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said “we don’t govern by polls” and defended the administration’s outreach to young voters. She said Biden’s record on climate policy and student loan forgiveness shows “how seriously we take what young people are going through.”
Jean-Pierre also defended the administration’s response to the crisis in Gaza, reiterating U.S. support for humanitarian aid and U.S. calls for Israel to reduce civilian casualties, while defending Israel’s right to respond to the October 7 Hamas attacks. “We’re going to have that moral clarity and be very, very clear with our friends in Israel about that, but they should have the right to defend themselves. And obviously we do not want to see innocent lives taken, you know, taken in Gaza as well.”
The poll was conducted from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 and includes responses from 5,203 adults across the country who took self-administered online surveys. Its margin of error for the full sample size was plus-or-minus 1.8 percentage points.
