Date: 2023-11

Dozens of local Jewish leaders alongside other faith leaders and hundreds of congregants gathered in front of the U.S. Capitol building Monday morning to pray and call on a ceasefire in Gaza, allowing protection for the hundreds of thousands caught in the crossfire.

The special gathering for Shacharit, the Jewish morning prayer service, will see leaders speak on a strong Jewish moral case to stop the bombing that has heavily impacted Palestinian families and caused thousands of deaths in the region, according to a statement.

Officials said the event included a prayer and reading of the Torah during a gathering at Constitution Avenue and 1st Street Northwest before the rabbis marched with their Torahs to congressional offices.

Following meetings with elected representatives, the rabbis will hold a press conference at 5:30 p.m. with congress members who signed on to a ceasefire resolution.
