CONGRESSMAN ANTHONY D’ESPOSITO INTRODUCES RESOLUTION TO EXPEL CONGRESSMAN GEORGE SANTOS FROM CONGRESS [1]

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Anthony D’Esposito (NY-04) formally announced the introduction of legislation to expel Congressman George Santos (NY-03) from Congress. The move by D’Esposito comes just one day after it was announced Santos was facing 10 new federal charges in addition to the charges of wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, and lying to Congress charges he pled not guilty to this past May – bringing the total charge count to 23. Joining D’Esposito as original co-sponsors of the legislation are Congressman Nick LaLota, Congressman Marc Molinaro, Congressman Brandon Williams, and Congressman Mike Lawler.

"George Santos' many deceptions coupled with the ever-expanding legal case against him further strengthen my long held belief that he is unfit to serve in Congress, and for that reason, I will be sponsoring a resolution to immediately expel George Santos from the House of Representatives.,” said D’Esposito.

“Earlier this year, I told Anderson Cooper on CNN that we would see George Santos in front of a judge in handcuffs. That prediction and belief is becoming more clear every day. Goodbye George,” said Congressman Brandon Williams.

“George Santos belongs in federal prison, not in the halls of Congress. Since December, I have called on him to resign. While I would have preferred the Ethics Committee to deliver its findings any time in the last 147 days since it was referred this case, expulsion is now the necessary next step,” said Congressman Nick LaLota. “New Yorkers want accountability and the guilty plea of Santos’ treasurer, who admitted to a criminal conspiracy with Santos, should be enough for two-thirds of my House colleagues to support expelling this fraudster who duped voters and contributors out of millions of dollars. New Yorkers deserve better.”

“George Santos is a liar and a fraud with a growing rap sheet. I have said and continue to say he should resign. Since he won’t, I’m supporting a resolution to expel him from Congress,” said Congressman Marc Molinaro.

Following the selection of a new Speaker of the House, D’Esposito and his fellow New York freshmen co-sponsoring the expulsion resolution intend to work collaboratively with the chamber’s next leader to ensure the resolution reaches the House floor for a vote.
