A timeline since Wednesday’s deadly mass shootings in Lewiston [1]

WEDNESDAY

6:56 p.m.: Police respond to a report of an active shooter at Just-In-Time Recreation, more commonly referred to as Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley on Mollison Way in Lewiston. According to Maine State Police, the communications center in Auburn receives notification that a man walked into Sparetime Recreation and began shooting. Multiple 911 calls followed.

7:08 p.m.: Multiple calls come into the communications center about a man who entered Schemengees Bar & Grille on Lincoln Street and began shooting.

8:06 p.m.: Police release an image of a suspect holding a rifle at the bowling alley and a photo of a white Subaru with a black bumper, possibly belonging to the suspect. Shortly after, emergency alerts to residents in Auburn and Lewiston advise everyone to shelter-in-place.

8:15 p.m.: Reports of a shooting at the Walmart Distribution Center on Alfred A Plourde Parkway. The reports turn out to be erroneous.

8:20 p.m.: Maine Department of Public Safety announce that Lewiston City Hall is the staging area for police searching for an active shooter in the city.

9:26 p.m.: The Lewiston Police Department receives a call identifying the man in the released photos as Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin.

9:56 p.m.: A vehicle matching an earlier description is found at the Pejepscot Boat Launch on the Androscoggin River in Lisbon. The vehicle is identified as belonging to Robert Card.

11 p.m.: A Walmart spokesperson says the reports of a shooting at the company’s distribution center are untrue.

11:30 p.m.: Commissioner of the Maine Department of Public Safety Michael Sauschuck confirms that Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin is a person of interest in the shootings. Sauschuck refuses to comment on the number of casualties from the evening.

THURSDAY

Early morning hours: Police continue the manhunt for Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin.

After 6 a.m.: Police expand the shelter-in-place order to include Bowdoin.

Just before 11 a.m.: In a press conference, Gov. Janet Mills and law enforcement leaders confirm 18 people have been killed and 13 are injured. Seven people died at the bowling alley and eight at the bar. Three more died at local hospitals.

1:55 p.m.: Residents in northern Sagadahoc and northern Androscoggin counties receive phone alerts that the shelter-in-place order has been extended to their areas. The alerts say they should “make sure your homes and vehicles are secure.”

1:55 p.m.: The Canada Border Services Agency alerts is officers to be on the lookout for Robert Card.

4:47 p.m.: Multiple gunshots could be heard for several minutes outside a home at 911 Meadow Road in Bowdoin. Law enforcement officers were standing, with long guns drawn, on a structure in a large field next to the home owned by Ryan and Katie Card. No cars were in the driveway.

5:24 p.m.: A neighbor at the Bowdoin home says the house has been vacant for some time, adding that Ryan and Katie Card, the brother and sister-in-law of the suspected shooter, used to live there but have not been there for a while.

5:53 p.m.: The loud bangs heard outside a home on Meadow Road in Bowdoin were not gunshots, according to Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. “It’s a tactical operation,” Moss said.

8:05 p.m.: Multiple law enforcement agencies are staged outside a home on Meadow Road in Bowdoin, that is believed to belong to Card’s brother. A spokesperson for state police said officers are executing several search warrants in the area, but they do not know if Card is in any of the homes they plan to search.

Evening: Three shooting victims remain in critical condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

FRIDAY

Early morning: Robert Card, 40, remains at large more than 36 hours the shootings at Just-In-Time Recreation and Schemengees Bar & Grille.

10 a.m.: Police plan to conduct a sweeping search, including a dive team, near the Lisbon boat launch where Robert Card’s abandoned car was found Wednesday.

10:30 a.m.: Police confirm that a note was found at a home connected to Robert Card, and the Associated Press reports that it is a suicide note.

10:30 a.m.: The public is asked to send tips to a new digital tip line at FBI.gov/LewistonTips. The public can send in information, pictures and video.

1:28 p.m.: The Maine chief medical examiner’s office says it has identified all of the 18 people killed.

2:10 p.m.: Colleges are among the institutions that remain closed. Check here for a list of cancellations and closures.

5:23 p.m.: The shelter-in-place order is rescinded.

5:23 p.m.: Hunting is prohibited in towns of Lewiston, Bowdoin, Lisbon and Monmouth beginning Saturday.

5:23 p.m.: The description of Robert Card is expanded: He is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 230 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.

7:45 p.m.: Law enforcement agents find Robert Card dead in Lisbon Falls of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

10 p.m. Gov. Janet Mills and law enforcement announce that Card’s body has been found, ending the statewide manhunt after more than 48 hours.

10:20 p.m.: The prohibition on hunting in four towns is lifted.
