ABOUT SDSN Launched by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in August 2012, the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) mobilizes scientific and technical expertise from academia, civil society, and the private sector in support of sustainable development problem solving at local, national, and global scales. SDSN aims to accelerate joint learning and help to overcome the compartmentalization of technical and policy work by promoting integrated approaches to the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world. SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, academia, and civil society. It is directed by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs and operates through offices in New York, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur. ABOUT THE SDG ACADEMY The SDG Academy is the education division of the SDSN, with the mandate of creating and curating the best available online educational content on sustainable development and making it available as a global public good. The Academy brings together the world’s foremost experts on sustainable development, from fields as varied as early childhood development, public health, food systems, and macroeconomics – to offer a comprehensive core curriculum around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), equipping the next generation of sustainable development practitioners to take on the complex challenges facing our planet. The SDG Academy is hosted by the SDSN Association, a 501(c)3 organization based in New York. POSITION SUMMARY The SDG Academy is seeking a Project Intern to provide support for the facilitation of the Mission 4.7 initiative, which may include development of educational content and research on sustainable development, communications and administrative support, and other tasks. You will play a key role as part of a small team that values proactivity and creative thinking to meet our ambitious goals. You will join and support the SDG Academy at SDSN but work closely with partners at the Center for Sustainable Development, Columbia University. The position requires ~10 hours/week via remote work using the Google Suite and Zoom for collaboration. The SDG Academy team is based out of New York City and Kuala Lumpur. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain the Mission 4.7 website and Twitter account. Monitor the Mission 4.7 email address. Provide support for documents, including writing, editing, and design work. Provide support for online and in-person events, including program design, communications, and technical support. Conduct research on topics related to education for sustainable development, as needed. Keep up to date on major happenings in the field of education for sustainable development (i.e., upcoming events, major publications, etc.) Assist in technical duties such as data downloads and record keeping. Assist management team with daily duties and other tasks as assigned. QUA LIFICATIONS Declared major related to sustainable development, economics, social sciences, or education. Passion for sustainable development and knowledge of the SDGs. Strong work ethic, tech savvy, creative ideas, and an eagerness to thrive in a small team setting. RELATED SKILLS Some experience with teaching or pedagogy, particularly online courses or e-learning is useful. Strong English communication skills. Other languages are a plus. Strong computer skills with preferred knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Canva, Squarespace, social media Some experience with content and/or learning management systems. At least 2 semesters of an undergraduate degree program already completed. Comfort working on an international team with colleagues across time zones. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Location: Remote (U.S. based) Contract Length: September 15, 2023 - May 31, 2024 (exact dates TBC - flexible) Salary Range: $16-$19 hourly (approximately 10 hours / week).
