Donald Trump Faces Several Investigations. Here’s Where They Stand. [1]
['Ben Protess', 'Alan Feuer', 'Danny Hakim']
Date: 2023-05
After beating back prosecutors’ investigations for years, former President Donald J. Trump has been indicted by a grand jury in Manhattan.
In an extraordinary appearance at the Criminal Courts Building in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday, Mr. Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts related to his role in what prosecutors described as a hush-money scheme to clear his path to the presidency in 2016.
The Manhattan case — the longest-running criminal inquiry facing Mr. Trump — marks the first time a former American president has faced criminal charges. But Mr. Trump, who has consistently denied all wrongdoing, is also facing other inquiries tied to his behavior before, during and after his presidency.
A federal investigation, now in the hands of a special counsel, is investigating Mr. Trump’s efforts to reverse his defeat at the polls in 2020 and his role in the events that led to the storming of the Capitol by his supporters on Jan. 6, 2021.
