‘Bigger Than Roe, More than Mifepristone’ Reproductive Rights Rally at the Sioux Falls Courthouse [1]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The rain and cold didn’t stop people from gathering on Saturday morning in protest of blocked access to Mifepristone, a medication used for abortion.
Nearly 100 activists gathered, held signs, and signed petitions. The rally was organized by the ACLU and it was part of a chain of protest across the country. The advocacy manager for the ACLU of South Dakota, Samantha Chapman, was encouraged by the number of people who stood in the rain to make their voices heard.
”The ACLU and Planned Parenthood and several other national partner organizations have been following this case out of Texas for months and we organized and coordinated to host rallies on the same day across the country, so there was a rally on the steps of the Supreme Court today in Washington DC,” explained Chapman. “Self-managed abortion is safe and it is essential healthcare. I’ve done it. People who support abortion access are never going to go away. We will continue to take care of ourselves and take care of our communities.”
A ruling will be made by the supreme court on Wednesday.
Last Friday, a federal judge issued a ruling that would block access to mifepristone, a medication used in abortions, in every state. The unprecedented ruling has the potential to strain clinics and providers across the nation who are already grappling with the effects of Roe v. Wade being overturned and abortion banned in states like South Dakota. This is a key part of the strategy of anti-abortion extremists to effectively ban medication abortion in every state and ultimately outlaw all abortion care nationwide. If you’re angry and upset, we’re with you. If you’re ready to take action, we’re with you. But this is bigger than Roe. It’s about more than mifepristone. Those of us who care about reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy need to get engaged despite all the barriers in our way. The fight for abortion access is everywhere, from the ballot box to the legislature to the streets — and the time to be loud and mobilize is now. We can’t stay silent while our rights are attacked – and we won’t. Join us to rally for our rights!
