The share of US workers belonging to labor unions hit a historic low last year as the economy rebounded from Covid-19, according to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unionized slice of the workforce dipped to 10.1%, beneath the previous record low of 10.3% in 2019. Union membership overall rose by 273,000 during a wave of worker unrest after the pandemic—but the increase was dwarfed by the rapid growth of nonunion jobs.
The BLS numbers show that while unions have had some success in new organizing, they haven’t been able to grow their presence in the US ...
