Finally, a webcomic that answers "What if Canada was just one giant mall?" [1]

['Grant St. Clair']

Date: 2025-08-11

I know, I know, webcomic recommendations are a dime a dozen, especially around here. I promise Dolmistaska is really good, though.

It's hard to describe the premise of something so off-the-wall in a way that makes sense, but I'll try anyway for your sake: Dolmistaska follows the adventures of an adorable but deeply dysfunctional cat person living in a surreal, city-sized 2000s-era shopping mall in an alt-history where the US annexed Canada. It's a mouthful, I know, but it's precisely that weirdness that makes the world and characters so engrossing.

There's plenty of wistful 90s and early 2000s nostalgia, a hockey uprising, clown meat, and an extended flashback about a sandwich. You can tell the artist is writing from the heart underneath it all, though, which is really the only thing that matters. It's a continuous story rather than an episodic one, so you will need to start from the beginning instead of just jumping in, but you're in luck — the comic has just hit 300 pages and is now on a temporary hiatus, so you have time to catch up.

And yes, you'll have to actually read the comic if you want to know what the hell that name means.
