In 1976 lots of kids were inspired by Evel Knievel [1]

['Jason Weisberger']

This video reminds me of the many times my friends and I would do stuff exactly like this. We wouldn't use a plain old bicycle, however. We made our vehicles. Unsurprisingly, affixing a box to something wheeled made both incredibly unstable and unsafe. We would then find the steepest hill in the neighborhood and go flying and/or tumbling down that hill. Our parents would also come out to watch the denouement.

This video is terrific. The newscaster does a perfect job of burning tons of time on info no one cares about as we wait to see Terry execute his stunt. Like Knievel, stunt shows need a lot of build-up before a big fail.

I hope Terry is still out there jumping trashcans.
