To be fair, Sophocles wasn't exposed to the modern nuance of the "unfair advantage", so it's understandable that antiquity's uninitiated would prefer failure over the "success by any means necessary" world of automotive racing—where cheaters are celebrated and loathed for brilliance and engineering innovation.
