Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first black woman confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court, was sworn in yesterday, replacing retiring justice Stephen Breyer. Though an historic moment, "the lifetime appointment … will not shift the current ideological balance of the court," notes the BBC.

Forthcoming 6-3 rulings whose dissents Jackson will be joining include gay rights, affirmative action and elections.
