Republican candidate for California governor wonders why slave owners shouldn't get reparations for their lost property

Larry Elder is the most likely of the GOP candidates to replace California governor Gavin Newsom should voters recall Newsom in this month's recall election. Elder, a conservative black man, is a treasure trove of remarkable opinions. This weekend, interest alighted on his suggestion that slave owners should have gotten paid for their property.

Some people on here are defending Larry Elder. However, he advocated for slave owner reparations on multiple occasions.

Chances seem to be slipping away for Elder as this sort of talk sinks in, but low motivation among blue voters has the party worried.
