Feds secure first publicly known plea in Child Nutrition Program case [1]

Federal prosecutors have secured a first publicly known plea agreement in the Feeding Our Future investigation, which involves alleged fraudulent use of taxpayer dollars from the federal Child Nutrition Program.
Federal court records show Mohamed Jama Ismail signed a guilty plea agreement in late July for passport fraud.
Ismail’s passport was taken by the FBI during a January raid of his property — among roughly two dozen other properties raided that day — that’s connected to the wide ranging investigation into alleged fraud of the federal food program. Sahan Journal reported the story when he was charged.
In March, Ismail applied for a new passport, falsely claiming he’d lost his. Then he tried to board a plane to Kenya.
The plea agreement calls for 6-12 months of incarceration.
Sahan Journal reported back in April, “Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson told the court Monday that, ‘(Ismail) stole millions of dollars.’”
