Brooklyn Center officer who killed Daunte Wright resigns

Kim Potter, who shot and killed an unarmed Black man Sunday during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, has resigned from the northern suburb’s police department, according to Law Enforcement Labor Services, a 6,400-member Minnesota police labor union.

Daunte Wright, 20, was father to a young son, Daunte Jr.

The union released Potter’s resignation letter, in which she wrote that she has “loved every minute of being a police officer and serving this community to the best of my ability.” The 26-year veteran of the department added: “It would be in the best interest of the community, the department and my fellow officers if I resign immediately.”

A decision about charging Potter with will be made by Washington County Attorney Pete Orput.
