------- !!! WARNING FLASHING LIGHTS WARNING !!! -------------
Compatibility: limit-removing.
GZDoom compatibility: Doom (strict)
Crispy, Woof!, prboom+, DSDA and other limit-removing source ports:
-complevel 2
Will not run on: vanilla source ports and ports that don't support .ogg.
Ducking and Jumping not intended. Freelook optional.
Many mods (weapons, monsters etc.) break the set in one
way or another: use at your own risk.
Known bugs:
ITYTD doesn't work: do not play on that difficulty! Apologies.
Software mode recommended for maps MAP04 and MAP15. Those maps may also
not experience the intended Peccaportal flying on ZDoom engines.
Some slime trails perhaps. I tried to get them all: sorry if you find any!
Zandronum softlocks on at least 3 of the maps (voodoo doll stuff). Sorry.
About the difficulties and New Game Plus:
I recommend people play the set on Doom II in its entirety: maps 1-20.
Play either continuous or pistol start, and after you've finished the
first 9 maps, you'll enjoy New Game Plus, where you play through all
the maps again but now with Doom II monsters, a higher difficulty,
and in some cases the maps themselves have undergone changes.
Players can play however they want of course. I put quite some effort
into balancing this for all difficulties. The same with co-op settings,
which I recommend you try out (using the -solo-net parameter) if you
want an additional challenge. Though a handful of maps maight be slightly
ridiculous for one player. All maps were fully designed and playtested
in Doom I before I made the Doom II New Game Plus maps. I have not heard
of other map sets that did this, I hope players like it. UV is not
the 'intended' difficulty: all of them are intended difficulties! The
same goes for pistol start/ continuous play. Though I recommend resetting
weapons and ammo upon entering New Game Plus.

About the map set:
I had only made five Ultimate Doom maps before I started this set.
Two for 'PUSS: TH1RT3EN', one for Solar Struggle, one joke map for Napsalm
and one for 'PUSS: D-30'. During 'PUSS: D-30' I started what would become
the 2nd map in this set. I had so much fun working with the Doom I resources
but ended up creating something that wouldn't have fit 'PUSS: D-30'.
The idea of a Doom I map set had never been in my mind but this time
I was really inspired. So I set out to work and here we are.
If I had to describe what I wanted to do/ended up doing with this map
set I might say: dramatic lighting and a feeling of fair challenge (sometimes
over-the-top fun). Grand vistas, some humor, big maps that are short,
and 'extended mapping techniques' like Peccaportals in some places
where it is warranted.
I added in lots of optional things, hopefully making for a punchy experience
that can be longer if the players themselves want it to be. I wanted to make
something that I myself just really like to look at, walk around in, and
fight in. This was my first time using 5 minute doors to tell tiny
stories across multiple maps in a set: I hope people like it. I recommend
IDCLIPping to the rooms if you feel like it, I won't judge ;).
The secret map was originally started for a different project: parts of
it ended up being reused here. One arena and gimmick in the map can also
be found in my map for Twofers. People that have been following my
mapping closely will recognise the bathroom and office in E1M1 from
'Solar Struggle'. I have used parts of that bathroom in four projects
by now I think. Same with the teddy bear on the bed, which I first made
for Ray Mohawk 2.
When I started this project I hadn't yet planned how many maps it would
have and hadn't thought about adding a New Game Plus, never mind making
that in Doom 2. Going back and forth between maps later on to make a
cohesive story was quite the challenge indeed :p.
I made the INTERPIC by building a separate map, containing miniatures
of landmarks found across the maps.
I moved houses after I finished RC3 of this set. In the process of moving
my PC broke and I lost everything on it. It was quite the blow, and it
was difficult for me to come back to this map set and finish it.
After RC3 I had already put in some work for the idgames version that
I now had to do again. I might have missed certain things in the process.
A big thanks to my playtesters: Petyan, Decay, Master Medi, LVENdead,
Napsalm, decino, Death Bear, Bytefyre, eharper256, Kaapeli47.

Special thanks to:
-Those dozens of people that have given me feedback over the years, in places
such as the UDB and Pineapple Under the Sea Studios discord servers, and
many other places. Doom mapping means being able to stand on the shoulders
of many giants that came before me. I couldn't have done it without you!
-Thank you to my Dooming friends, you know who you are!
-Petyan for help making the invuln palette and general advice.
-decino for help with the advanced crusher technique (any HOMs are my fault).
-Some recipe suggestions by senpai gru, Heichy, Hambourgeois, Petyan.
-The band 'Lords of Lounge' for allowing me the use of their composition.
-Shoutout to Cacodemon187, whose 'El Viaje de Diciembre' is gorgeous.
