* Author Comments *
MAP01: Now This Is Epic - DoomTheRobot
Difficulty: Kinda Easy
Build Time: About 2 weeks?
Bugs: Probably a lot of texture misalignments lol
Comment:
Originally, there was going to be this elevator set piece after
picking up the red key on one side of the map, but I couldn't figure
out the voodoo stuff in time so I cut it. I think it's better I kept
it short for a MAP01 slot anyways.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAP02: Negative Ratio - NaN
Difficulty: Not easy, not hard.
Build Time: 2 weeks'ish
Bugs: idk.
Comment:
This is my first boom compat map ever, and my first legit released map too.
Starting inspiration was to do some sort of underhalls homage, it went off
track fast, mainly cause I was experimenting a lot, so in the end there was
basically no planning involving layout, fights or whatnot, other than
maintaining a somewhat realistic feel of space to it.
Combat is rather tight, less room to move around, ammo is enough. viles...
The DM Area is interesting ;) As any other of my maps in this wad, in
hindsight and with current knowledge of mapping, detail wise I could have
done better, but i'll preserve it as is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAP03: Do The Worm - Ayeloo
Difficulty: A decent challenge.
Build Time: 2 and a half weeks
Bugs: End boss arena might sometimes fail to release monsters or important items,
and there are some death pits that might fail if you skip a linedef.
Comment:
My first released a map, but not my first time playing with UDB. I love
spacious arenas, provoking lighting efects (be it for decoration or
gameplay purposes), non-linear level design, enemy crossfire and monster
infighting, so I crammed as much of those thing as I could in the map :)
So hopefully you can handle yourself around those things too, otherwise
you might have a tough time.
My tips for making your life easier: 1) Punch as many things as you can.
There aren't any chainsaws in the map, so berserk should be the crux of
your ammo management. 2) Think outside the box. While it's not exactly
cramped in there, sometimes you might not get a lot of space to move
around, or the open areas might make you feel lost. You'll especially
notice this in the latter half of the map; No spoilers, though!
I just wanted to thank everybody for helping with testing (mostly NaN),
and DoomTheRobot for giving me this opportunity to get off my lazy
ass and finally release something. i'm glad I got this vague
"sulphur mine-ish level with acid lakes" idea into an actual map.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAP04: White Man Can't Jump - Lazorinc & AnonSoul (+NaN's babe remake)
Difficulty: Easy, yet prickly
Build Time: approx. 12-15 hours
Bugs: none
Comment:
Haven't made a map since Vinesauce contest, felt like I did ok
for wanting to do a funny concept. Anonsoul made the room at the
far south end, and I retextured it to make it fit thematically.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAP05: Short N Sour - NaN
Difficulty: Forgiving.
Build Time: 1 day
Bugs: idk.
Comment:
4th map ever.
Buildtime is clutch mainly because I did this one in a rush as
a backup. I had some idea of layout and fights for this one,
go snatch shotsy from zombie, blast imps go up and around and
over, open outside area, imps flood in. The rest was just spice
on top. Combat is mostly tight, ammo may seem little at first
but it's plenty after a certain point. DM Area is one notch
lower than map07's in detail department, but it's enough.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAP06: Piss Easy - NaN
Difficulty: Unforgiving and slaughtery.
Build Time: 1 week and a few days
Bugs: idk.
Comment:
2nd map ever.
Initial idea was to build a castle + snow combo, shit got
flipped upside down, black, white and gold everywhere with a
divine atmosphere. The more it turned into an eye candy, the
more it turned into a slaughterfest, idk it just felt right.
Combat is varied, some parts tight, others not so much,
Ammo is scarce for the most part, but will show up when needed.
Bookshelf Platforming is WAY more forgiving than the v0.1,
way more... I wouldn't put anyone other than myself thru that.
DM Area got way better made than the 1st, I was getting the
hopes of doing the thing with the program.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAP07: Simply Ratio'd - NaN
Difficulty: OK'ish.
Build Time: Few days
Bugs: idk.
Comment:
3rd map ever.
Dead simple inspired, went pretty much for a somewhat organic
cavern design with this one, there was some planning on some
general areas, but mostly I let the shapes the mouse randomly
formed, guide me.
Combat is open, and mostly straight in your face. ammo is plenty.
DM Area by far the most detailed i've done in this wad...
just have fun. on GZ it may lag a bit.
