The Doom WAD Reviews v0.12
--------------------
by Colin Phipps
These are a set of reviews for single play of all the
new levels for Doom 1 on ftp.cdrom.com beginning with
the numbers 0-9 or with the letters A-B.
I am aiming to review all the levels on ftp.cdrom.com.
I have released those that I have done so far mainly so
people can comment, and perhaps reveal any problems
with the reviews.
The reviews are all in HTML. I am no expert, but most
of the stuff should work with any browser. I know it
works with Internet Explorer 3.0.
The reviews come are in two ZIP files, which should
hopefully be somewhere near this TXT file. These are:
D1REV0B.ZIP - The reviews themselves. This is all you
need to see the reviews. Approx 131Kb.
D1REV0BG.ZIP - Some screenshots of some of the better
levels. If you download these, they appear beside the
reviews, to give a real feel to some of the levels. You
don't need these. Approx 615Kb. You have to download a
copy of D1REV0B.ZIP to get the reviews themselves.
Here are some good reasons to download these reviews:
- Complete download and read off-line. Useful for
people who don't want to spend ages on-line to
slow Web pages to find reviews.
- Over 140 WADs reviewed already. Almost all of
the Doom 1 WADs 0-b on ftp.cdrom.com reviewed.
Also a number of more recent WADs.
- Almost all of the information from the Doom WAD
Authoring Template is included for every level.
- Every WAD played and reviewed by one person -me!
- Checking with editors for problems with levels.
- A table of the all the WADs reviewed and the
ratings they got for easy searching.
- Indication of WADs that run slowly for people
with slow computers.
- Download file sizes for those on slow
connections.
- Feel free to include these reviews with your
own compilations of reviews, or use them on a
Web site, provided you let me know and credit
me.
- Sorry to disappoint the overwhelming demand (all
one of you!) for the dates to be included. They
will be in the next release.
I would appreciate feedback. My e-mail is
[email protected].
To use these reviews:
- Create a directory to contain the reviews.
- Unzip the ZIP files into this directory.
- Fire up your Web browser, and look at main.htm.
Happy Dooming!
