                   | ULTRA-VIOLENCE DEMO COLLECTION |
                   |================================|

                   *** A Black Star Coven Release ***

This is a collection of LMPs for all 18 levels + 2 secret levels of THE
TALOSIAN INCIDENT by Black Star Coven.  These demos show how to complete
every level on UltraViolence skill, starting with a pistol and ending with
100% kills and 100% secrets (where possible).

These demos were recorded by:

Jason Henry aka King God Space <[email protected]>
      Malcolm Sailor <[email protected]>
          Patrick Martin <[email protected]>
         Yonatan Donner <[email protected]>

These demos require Doom2 v1.9 to run.  To play these demos, place the files
in your Doom2 directory, then type:

    doom2 -file talosl.wad talosg.wad talosm.wad -playdemo tal??-uv

where ?? is the level number (do not type the .lmp extension)

If you don't have The Talosian Incident, you need to get it at:

    ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/idgames/levels/doom2/s-u/talosian.zip

or visit the Black Star Coven homepage at:

    http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/8666/

NOTE:  Be sure you have the Talosian Incident v1.2 to run these demos.
Some were recorded with earlier versions, but all have been tested and
should playback fine with v1.2.  Some demos will NOT run properly with
earlier versions.  If you run into any synchronization problems
(i.e. the player dies), or any other problems, please contact Jason Henry
at [email protected], or John Bye (our holy leader :) at [email protected].

A big thank you to all the BSC members involved in designing these levels,
and to id software for creating the BEST game of all time!  MAY DOOM NEVER
DIE!

Ok, here's what we all have to say about this project:

Jason
-----
As a beta-tester for Black Star Coven, it was my pleasure to see these levels
before they were released, and to add my suggestions here and there.  A lot
of time and energy was invested in this project -- sometimes John and I would
spend hours discussing whether a medkit should be a stimpack, etc. -- and I
believe it shows.  I wish the Coven had more time to create more levels and
expand existing ones; still, I believe this is one of the best level sets out
there, and I have seen many!

Special thanks to my fellow recorders Malcolm, Patrick, and Yonatan, for
lending their expertise to these lmps.  These are some of the best players
out there (ever seen a cyberdemon punched to death??) and I hope one day to
match their skill.

Equipment used:  A crappy 486/66 with 20 Megs RAM.  I'm still a keyboard
player, and will die a keyboard player.  Separate strafe keys, what's that?
 ;-)

Personal info:  29, live in Los Angeles, where it's sunny and 72 degrees all
the time...I'm hopelessly addicted to watching and/or recording lmps for
Doom2.  Want proof of my obsession?  Check out http://www.wgn.net/~space

Malcolm
-------
I'm goin to pout for a while cause I didn't get to do MAP12 :(  I hope
everyone likes my demoes and loves my levels... my favourites (of mine) are
MAP14 and MAP31. Also check out my Chord1.wad (this is my fav.) and my demo
of it. Sorry all my Talosian levels are so easy (Jason disagrees;)

Equiptment Used: A KICK-ASS Logitech 3-button mouse! A 486/66 with 16 megs.
After tommorow it will be a p166 with 32megs and a 3dfx! Woohoo!

Personal info: I'm 13 (14 in two days as I write this) and I live in
Saskatoon.  I like punk like Crass and Aus-Rotten.

Patrick
-------
Equipment used:  A P5-100 with 16 Megs RAM.  I use only the
keyboard.  I can't quite seem to get used to the mouse.

Personal info:  I am 25 and I currently live in Oklahoma.

Yonatan
-------
Jason told me about this wad and I downloaded it when it came out. Then I
found two levels which I liked, 8 and 13 (because it was so short :), and
recorded them. 8 is my favorite in this wad, I also like 11 and 10.

Thanks to Jason for telling me about this wad and organizing the whole lmp
collection.

Equipment used: P133, 16mb ram, completely crappy video card (1mb)

Personal info: visit my homepage at
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/4704/ if you really care...

Level-by-level comments (written by the person who recorded the level):

MAP01 "THE TRANSPORT" (Jason, 1:59):
Err, this is basically a -nomonsters demo, since there's nothing to kill
here...(you can't kill the revenant.)  All you need is the weapons & ammo,
the blue key, the chainsaw secret, and you're done.  Watch out for the
 radiation areas.

MAP02 "DESOLATION" (Malcolm, 9:11):
Whooo boy did I suck on those barons, but thats why this demo is so damn
 fun to watch.

MAP03 "THE CLIFF TOP FORT" (Jason, 12:40):
A large, complex, extremely confusing fortress level.  The keys can be
frustratingly hard to find -- it took me over 40 minutes to complete, the
first time I played it.  Press space on the altar to open the door between
 the red pillars.

MAP04 "THE CHAPEL" (Jason, 4:41):
The chaingunners here are extremely dangerous, they can kill you from
 amazing distances...

MAP05 "FORT I" (Jason, 10:29):
This underground fortress is one of my favorite levels, design-wise.  Some
long distances need to be covered to get all the secrets, but I don't
mind...  Watch out for the archvile trap, VERY easy to rocket-frag yourself
 there!

MAP06 "FORT II" (Jason, 8:35):
I love how the first part of this level matches the previous level, with
dead bodies of the monsters you already killed everywhere.  The soulsphere
secret is extremely lethal, usually costing you over 100% health. :)

MAP07 "THE CHURCH" (Malcolm, 10:24):
I didn't realize john was calling his other map "the chapel" oh well...
I dislike the gameplay on this map, I recorded this when I was dead bored.

MAP08 "FOCUS" (Yonatan, 3:35):
This one has incredible lighting and a very good design, in most parts.
 Easy.

MAP09 "THE PALACE" (Jason, 6:42):
This was one of the first levels I saw in beta-testing.  It's also a good
measure of how I've improved as a Doom player.  The first time I played it,
I had a hard time surviving.  Now I have a hard time dying. :)  Excellent
 design, reminiscent of CygnusIV.

MAP10 "HARDWARE" (Jason, 6:14):
Punch the demons & spectres to avoid ammo problems.  It also helps to let
the cacos and arachnotrons fight each other, but that took too long, so...

MAP11 "SOFTWARE" (Jason, 7:27):
This level is in the style of Malcolm's Nosun levels, MEAN and unforgiving.
Many chances to get hung up on a door frame or a pillar.  WARNING:  DO NOT
GRAB THE SOULSPHERE UNTIL THE ARCHVILE IS DEAD!

MAP12 "VULCAN" (Patrick, 8:32):
Don't dally after you leave the first computer lab --
cacodemons will rise from the pit and try to cut you off.
Be sure to visit the storage area to pick up better weapons
BEFORE you even try to go after the blue key.  Over 1,000
bullets are available on the level, so feel free to keep that
pistol or chaingun blazing.  Be very careful near the end.

MAP13 "GET THE HELL OUT" (Yonatan, 0:59):
Nice level, just grab the rocket launcher, kill some monsters and exit.
 This one is also easy.

MAP14 "BENEATH" (Malcolm, 10:09):
This is my favourite level of mine in the whole set. I did a crappy job of
getting those spiders to kill each other, but oh well. Normally I finish
 with plenty of shells.

MAP15 "SOLVENT" (Jason, 14:45):
This level was in beta-testing longer than any other level.  To my chagrin,
the ammo/health kept going down, while the number of monsters kept going
up...  Finding all the switches can be a mind-bender.  The secret exit is
 here.

MAP31 "INFERNO REVISITED" (Malcolm, 10:20):
This map is fun as hell especially the beginning. I hope you all can find
it cause this is a good one.

MAP32 "PORTALS" (Jason, 5:18):
I still think you overdid it on the imps, Malcolm. ;-)  The "BAD" portal
ends the level & restarts on map32 again...a good way to stock up on ammo,
 if you need to!

MAP16 "THE CANYONS" (Jason, 5:25):
Starting this from scratch is quite a challenge, watch carefully to see
how I create a path...  The chaingunners at the end are extremely difficult
 to hit.

MAP17 "THE GREAT OUTDOORS" (Jason, 3:17):
A nightmare of a level -- throw the switch, then wait 3 minutes for the
bridge to rise while monsters teleport in all around you...  A lot of luck,
patience, and nerves of steel is required to survive this one.  Oh yes,
then there are the 13 (yes, THIRTEEN) cyberdemons guarding the exit.
 The secret...RUN!!!

MAP18 "HI HONEY, I'M HOME" (Jason, 6:49):
Well, you're back on your ship, but it's not as empty as when you left
it...  The chaingunner battle near the reactor core is VERY difficult,
since you can't see them and it's very easy to shoot your "clone" in the
stasis chamber!  The final archvile battle always gives me problems, too.
